Four D.C. police officers are being investigated after they crashed two cruisers in a Northeast neighborhood Thursday, apparently while street racing, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
The officers have also been ordered to not have contact with the public, according to the department.
Sixth District sent an email to command staff, expressing frustration with the situation.
“[Thursday], two 6D scout cars were totaled because officers decided instead of fighting crime, patrolling their beats, or engaging the community, they decided to drag race each other on Anacostia Avenue at 5 p.m. in the evening,”
In her email, the commander said she had talked with D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee about the incident, and expected supervisors to deal with officers who speed and drive recklessly.

I once asked a cop I knew to radar me to confirm my speedometer accuracy. He said to just drive side by side.
By the time we were done we were running 25 over side by side.
Putting their best foot forward....right into their mouths.
Throw the book at them. That’s a residential neighborhood. The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens are on one side of the street, but the other side is single family homes with, you know, kids and puppies and and old guys with canes and moms with baby strollers. It’s a pretty quiet street with light traffic unless there’s something going on in the Aquatic Gardens, but it ain’t a place anybody should be racing.
That’s the origin of the saying “An armed society is a polite society”.
Reasonable folks tend to not put up with much b.s.
Surprised they let him race with the hubcaps on. Back it the day, that was against the rules.
I can imagine if one of those things got loose it’d be like a killer Frisbee.
I wonder if you have to be a DC resident in order to become a DC policeman. When that happens in a big city, it usually leads to a lessening of the quality of the officers
WE used to race a bomb loaders in Nam on the Flt line..
Both of them?
Back in the 60s when I was younger we raced our motorcycles around the Lincoln Memorial at 2:00 in the morning. The park police acted as flagmen. Raced a DC motorcycle patrolman one night. Fun times.
Think about how reflexively offended society has gotten since those days. All you hear now is how people say the wrong things, do the wrong things, young guys do young things and screw up and need to be punished, even people trying to abide by all the rules fail in some way and everyone jumps on them as if it is a glorious opportunity.
The first society was a team where everyone cheered everyone else, and tolerated their foibles as you would a brother’s. Today we still have a brotherhood, but the leadership has been infiltrated by our enemy, who is just always seeking to divide us and use these opportunities to make everyone miserable and feel besieged.
One hundred and three cars were wrecked in the filming, a record in 1980 when the movie was made. In 1982 the movie The Junkman destroyed 150 cars and a plane while filming. The current record is held by The Matrix Reloaded, filmed in 2003.
While there was an early rumor that Universal Pictures agreed to buy all new police cars for the Chicago Police Department, in reality, the city allowed filming on location in Chicago for a $50,000 donation to charity.
Yes, lol
The original Gone in 60 Seconds Movie in 1974 had 127 Cars Totaled or Damaged in the 40 Minute Long Chase Scene finale.
The Budget for the Movie was only $150,000.
