My parents worked had to help fund my college education. I was expected to work as much as I could to help raise the funds needed. I worked summers and breaks at several A&P Grocery stores in Florida. I had a close friend there who was working to support himself and his widowed mother. He reminded me of the opportunity that my parents had helped me to have and that I should not waste it.

Yes, college costs have grown faster than the rate of inflation. This makes it critically important to manage one's debt. Scholarships are more competitive these days, so students need to grow up fast and make good choices.

Wishful thinking is just that, so focus on making the best choices you can. I encourage all aspiring college students to read the book Generation Debt by Anaya Kamenetz. Remember, Failing to plan is really planning to fail. Find good counsel and do what is needed to succeed.
