I tried to find the study itself, but it's available by ordering a subscription to Public Health Nutrition.

''I never drink diet pop and I just started drinking sugared pop recently, maybe once or twice a week, and almost always when I get Fast Food which happens maybe once a month.

The artificial sweetener alarms started a long time a go (early 1970's) starting with saccharine. Then it was later determined that saccharine wasn't all that bad for you and it is still being used. Now there are several artificial sweeteners. I know a couple of people who still drink diet pop, but that's about it.

Cola is a must when eating popcorn. Other than that I prefer whole milk with my food.

I'm also drinking a lot of water. I was in rehab for 2-3 weeks for a hip fracture and started enjoying water more. I used to drink a lot beer but only 1 or 2 a week now, and I feel much better for it.

Cyclamates will give you bladder cancer if you drink over 500 cans of soda a day.

I use Stevia in my coffee every day. My wife prefers saccharin because that is what she grew up with in England.

I have been using Splenda for many years. I am now 71, I guess I am going to die young.

I’ve messed up titles of threads before, but this is a classic!

Kudos for waking up.

Keeping with a pledge I made long ago to no longer discuss health issues here until I publish my book, I will only write,

“You’re still willingly in the minefield; keep eyes open.”

I always thought carmelized beverages were tough on the liver.

I grew up with a diabetic mom, and am now Type 2 myself. I have been drinking diet soda since it first came out sweetened with aspartame (never could abide saccharine). Never had a problem with it. I now prefer Splenda to aspartame but not many sodas use it. I tried the stevia sweetened ones and all I taste is metal.
