After Derek Chauvin's guilty verdict, 3 other Minneapolis police officers await trial
CBS NEWS ^ | APRIL 22, 2021 / 6:48 AM | CASSIDY MCDONALD

The three officers — Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane — each face two charges: aiding and abetting second-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years, although Reuters reports sentencing guidelines reduce that to 15 years; and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.

All three have been released from jail after posting $750,000 bond. All of the officers were fired from the Minneapolis Police Department just days after Floyd's death.

How bad must you need a job to still be a Minneapolis cop? I can kinda/sorta understand why someone with 15+ years might stick it out until retirement. That could be a decent chunk of change, long-term. But, for everyone else, you are gambling with your life, either with the dirtbags you arrest or the city that employs you.

With respect to what these three will do, I suspect they’re looking for a negotiated plea. But, does the cop-hating Ellison want to deal? Probably not. They’re likely screwed.

I’ll bet Canada is looking pretty good for this trio right now.

I agree. And also think that most cops who stay working in these rotten big cities will excercise extreme caution and risk aversion to the point of being irrelevant to law enforcement. Why risk a use of force with a criminal belonging to a privileged racial group when a cop can choose to respond very slowly en route to a reported incident, or can sit in his car and repeatedly call for back-up instead of sticking his neck out? Instead of intervening and waiting for the police brass to throw them under the bus after the fact, keep calling for back up until high ranking officials arrive and make them decide how to proceed.

While deal with blacks period? They tend to kill each other anyway, so why risk your life or jail to do anything about them?

You don't think that thought is catching fire among LEOs.

Hence the stampede to protect yourself if/when the anarchy spreads.

I read on another site that Minneapolis has lost 20% of its police officers and is looking to lose another 20%.

I’d get out NOW, NOW, NOW.

Find a police force in a rural part of the U.S. were law enforcement is respected and your life and career aren’t on the line every single day. You’re not only fighting vicious criminals but vicious DAs and the DOJ.

According to Colin Flaherty, lots of former police officers from Philly, New York, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago have done exactly this.

Glenn Beck was saying on his show yesterday that cops are saying quietly they’ll let black criminals run away and not pursue.

These are guys with a life and pension who’d like to see the sun come up tomorrow. I’d put in for every small town in rural American if I were one of these cops. Big cut in salary but better guarantee that you’d come home to your family at the end of the day and live to see your pension free and not behind prison walls.

Imagine a world with thousands of Chicago style daily killings in every city in America.

I think the LEO approach will become more formulistic. Gone will be the day when the LEO tries to be understanding and reason with people and try to defuse a situation if there is any resistance. If a defendant resists, you give them one warning (not two) then you tazer them, another warning, you tazer them again. Another warning, then you hit them over the head with billy clubs. Once you cuff them either they get in the car or you carry them into the car. If they start resisting again, you repeat tazer, etc.

Once the arrest decision is made, specific approach steps will be followed. The LEO will treat people like animals at that point.

Local Police forces are going the way of the Dodo Bird, there will be a National Police Force, that’s what this is all about.

Who can blame them. What’s the upside, and as long as blacks are killing other blacks, what’s the problem anyway?

Of course then they’ll complain that white cops allow blacks to kill other blacks. But they are going to complain no matter what, anyway.

They too will be railroaded.
They will win on appeal then sue and the taxpayers will pay out large sums of money.
