MINNEAPOLIS -- The defense attorney for the former Minneapolis police officer on trial in the death of George Floyd tried Wednesday to show that Floyd yelled "I ate too many drugs” as three officers pinned him to the ground.
Attorney Eric Nelson didn't get the clear confirmation he was seeking, but he may have planted a seed in jurors' minds anyway as he seeks to sow reasonable doubt about the prosecution's case against Derek Chauvin.
Part of his strategy for defending Chauvin against murder and manslaughter charges has been to deflect responsibility for Floyd's death last May 25 away from Chauvin — a white officer who prosecutors say knelt on the Black man's neck for 9 1/2 minutes — and onto Floyd himself for using illegal drugs. An autopsy found fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system.

But prosecutor Matthew Frank wasn't going to let that stand. He got Reyerson to say he had not closely listened to that passage before. After a break to regroup, Frank replayed a longer clip from the same body cam video,
“Having heard it in context, you’re able to tell what Mr. Floyd is saying there?” Frank asked.
“I believe Mr. Floyd was saying, ‘I ain’t do no drugs,’" Reyerson replied.
“So that’s a little different than what you were asked about when you only saw a portion of the video, correct?′ Frank asked.
"Yes, sir,” the agent said.

That’s what I heard.
I agree with the D.A. on this one. A variation on "dindu nuffin!"
The toxicology report is the second and final opinion.
It says he did ate too many drugs
But let’s say for argument, you kill someone who would have died five minutes later, anyway, wouldn’t it still be murder?
Amnd one more point, FRiend: the officers on scene were endangered by the grwoing BLACK mob of mindless droogs, so Chauvin's attention might have been a bit distracted by the BLACK mob, eh?
I doubt that he made that statement. In all the commotion, it may have sounded as though he did, but Floyd did not strike me as someone introspective enough, honest enough to make that admission to the cops who had battled him down to the ground.
A serious Doper only thinks of the absolute present, not some possible future outcome.
7 minutes and 46 seconds, actually.
Re: Drugs
I think it helps Chauvin's case if Floyd said, "I ain't do no drugs."
Then, Chauvin has no reason to suspect or call in for a medical emergency.
Also, it is not well known that, during a previous arrest, Floyd did swallow his drugs.
The judge would not allow that testimony at Chauvin's trial.
Why? I do not know. I never saw the written opinion.
Anyway, the fact that Floyd had a fatal dose of fentanyl in his blood screen speaks for itself.
I heard that Mama or some variation of what G Floyd was saying, was what he called his partner in crime that day as a nickname. It wasn’t all cut and sweet him crying for hims moms, but trying to get his friends attention possibly.
Doesn’t matter. America is only for ferals and violent progressives. Everything serves them and their goals.
[ But let’s say for argument, you kill someone who would have died five minutes later, anyway, wouldn’t it still be murder? ]
Suicide by Stupidity ( don’t do drugs kids )
You hit upon the one key part of this story...’serious doper’. I think Floyd...maybe for months...got up and the very first thing he thought about was the next ‘hit’. He had a regular job finally, and income rolling in from the night-club job. I doubt over the last 30 days of his life...that he went more than 12 hours without a ‘hit’.
What difference does it make now?..........*spit
“I think it helps Chauvin’s case if Floyd said, “I ain’t do no drugs.”
I was thinking the same thing. Floyd was repeatedly prattling on that “I’m not a bad guy” and “I’m not that kinda guy” etc. If he’s denying drug use/impairment, wasn’t it reasonable for Officer Chauvin to take him at his word?
Could this be classified as an Ate crime?
“But let’s say for argument, you kill someone who would have died five minutes later, anyway, wouldn’t it still be murder?”
A person is threatening suicide and has a loaded gun to his head and tells you he has lots of drugs in his system, but instead of convincing him to drop the gun, you pound him death with sledge hammer?
Is that murder?
I remember seeing a video frame right when he was getting out of his car that showed a large white blob on his tongue, and that was supposed to be a chunk of meth or fentanyl he was swallowing to hide it from the police.
Wasn’t he also already saying “I can’t breathe” while he was safely tucked away in the back of the cruiser?
