Rhinos are poached to feed the demand of ignorant Chinese to create useless herbal medicines. Poachers don’t use the meat of the animal for food, nor are they defending crops or livestock. They simply kill the creature, hack off its horn, and leave the carcass to rot in the sun. They’re engaged in an illegal and immoral activity that unfettered will lead to the extinction of an entire species.
If they are “just trying to feed their families” then the same could be said about mafiosos, drug dealers, and SS camp guards. That excuse justifies any sort of behavior. So I don’t shed a tear when another wild animal ends their thoughtless slaughter. Am I gleeful? Let’s just say I smirk at the instant karma.
