In Santa Cruz, the Saturn Café is closing its doors after decades in business.
The café made the announcement on social media: "Saturn has survived fire, earth quaking, the kitchen flooding, but nothing has ever brought us to our knees like this pandemic."
They are now relocating to Los Angeles but are still actively looking for a new location in Santa Cruz.
saturncafe We have started writing this note a hundred times, only to delete all of these attempted beginnings, struggling to find the words, not just the right words, but any words to convey this message.
Saturn without Santa Cruz has been so hard for us to take in, and after over forty years, who wants to think about Santa Cruz without Saturn?
Saturn has survived fire, the earth quaking, the kitchen flooding, but nothing has ever brought us to our knees like this pandemic.
Sadly, we will not be reopening our 145 Laurel Street location, which has been our home for over twenty years. We will be relocating to our new neighborhood in Los Angeles.
But we do not believe this to be the end of the road for our love affair with Santa Cruz. We are searching for a new location in this magical town that has been an inextricable part of our story. We are also in search of a local partner or two who will help guide Saturn Santa Cruz through this next era.
The love and support the Santa Cruz locals have always given us never burned brighter than it did this past year. We adore each and every one of you. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your wild spirit, your late night cravings, your big generous hearts are all a part of us and wherever we go, they go, too.
Stay weird Santa Cruz! Work your magic and before you know it, we will be back together again. Like all great connections, it will seem as if no time has passed at all.
Saturn will always LOVE you Santa Cruz.
Question is, what kept them open for twenty years? Unless they serve meat, I’m not going with anyone to a vegetarian restaurant.
Just looked at an online menu. You can get real eggs and cheese, but chicken and bacon are in scare quotes. Sausage isn’t in scare quotes. Not sure what to make of that.
Lettuce and lentils are good fill a diet but working men need meat.

Old saying - "Never ask what goes into sausage."
Vegetarian? I’d rather eat paint chips. In the 90s had a Vegan girlfriend, we broke up after I took her 8 year old son to a nice burger joint. He wanted to try a burger and loved it.
I hadn’t been there since Covid.
Luv that place
