Much agreed! And I haven't seen people going for strolls in their own neighborhoods for decades. It's as if they're hiding in their houses and cars and waiting for other people to be mauled by each other's bad dogs or attacked by neighborhood drug addicts. Pathetic.
The answers to potential criminal threats are exercise, self-defense education, training, weapons, self-defense insurance (legal services), cellphones, cameras (see cheap body cams), etc.--not to hide in houses and cars. Then go for walks (or jogs, for those who can). Old school. :)

I must live in an unusual neighborhood. A LOT of people walk around here every day, before CoVid and throughout the lockdowns. My husband and I would go irregularly before CoVid. Now we walk the neighborhood or a nearby park almost every day, even during a bit of crummy weather. (Although I’m not much excited about walking outdoors when it gets into the single digits or lower. That’s not much fun at all. )
Bottom line, CoVid made me realize that the best way to fight CoVid was to help my body be the healthiest it can be.
