Police responded to a call of a suspicious package about 9:35 a.m. in the 5000 block of West Madison Street, according to preliminary information from Chicago police.
The bomb squad later determined there was a live grenade inside a blue lunch bag, police spokeswoman Sally Bown said.

Hey now. Cheer up. It could have been an AR-93.
Aw, just defund the police so that they don’t have a bomb squad anymore. What’s the worst that could happen?
Where does one get a live grenade? At one of those gun shows where they don’t do background checks.
“Where does one get a live grenade?”
China. You can order them from China.
No, I’m not joking.
What kind of Grenade?
There are a lot of different kinds of grenades.
It could be a relatively harmless smoke grenade.
Or it could be (what everyone thinks of) a very dangerous fragmentation grenade.
This could be a a whole lot of nothing.
The police should tell the corrupt DemocRAT ‘leaders’ to pick up the d**ned thing themselves. The cops are too busy as ‘diversity’ training and dealing with the woke joke.
Oh, Democrats, you can defuse a hand grenade by pulling the pin, holding that pin in your hand, and placing the grenade in your mouth.
Really.
Really really.
Trust me.
I demand common sense grenade laws...
As we can see... there are plenty of laws against grenades on the books and only criminals have them.
Who eats a hand grenade for lunch?
“Who eats a hand grenade for lunch?”
Tasmanian Devil.
But I think he prefers dynamite.

That brings back fond memories of my youth.
Betcha you could get the reporter to say its a semi-automatic grenade.
Reminds me of a Joe Kenda episode where he responds to a garage explosion and finds a finger still clenching the pin of a grenade. They figured the guy found one that was swiped from a nearby army base, pick it up and said "Whut's this pin for?"
At least it wasn’t a brick of ammo. Think of their reaction if the police reported 500 rounds (of 22LR)?
—”What kind of Grenade?”
A very good question.
Saturday morning cartoons.
Warner Brothers were the best.
I prefer the older Bugs Bunny cartoons than this one.
I thing the animation and artwork were better.
They went cheap on the artwork when they start making them for TV rather than theater shorts.
Just remember, never play “Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms” on a piano.
The exploding kind.
I grew up during the 80’s, but watched Looney Toons on Nickelodeon.
A very good question.
But honestly your average 20 something reporter is not going to know that their a dozen or so different kinds of grenades.
And you really can’t blame them for that. A kid reporter can’t be educated on everything.
Even the bomb squad guys may have to do a bit of research on a grenade to find out what it is if it is an import from some obscure place on earth.
