Hideki nearly almost missed winning.
In a string of holes Hideki and Xander Schaffele went from Hideki being five shots ahead of Xander (at the 13th) to Hideki being only 2 ahead of Xander at the 15th.
Then at the 16th Xander missed the green with his T-shot landing in the water, he takes a triple bogey dropping his score by four points, but Hideki takes a bogey himself dropping by one.
At that point Hideki was only 2 away from Zalatoris who had already completed the 18th. Zalatoris score stood at 9 under par and Hideki’s score stood at 11.
Then at the 18th Hideki gets one more bogey, dropping to 10, just one ahead of Zalatoris.
But the real missed chance is held by Xander Shcaffele who had birdied the previous four holes before the triple bogey at the 16th, when he had stood only two shots away from Hideki at the 15th. Xander parred both the 17th and 18th. If he had just parred the 16th he and Hideki would have been tied at 10 at the 18th, and into a playoff round. If he had birdied the 16th, he would have won, just one ahead of Hideki.
I would have been fine with either Hideki or Xander winning, the both played so well.
It was great to watch and congratulations to a deserving master
Dropping his score?
Couldn’t a guy dunk one or two in that situation?
Xander also blew up on the front with a double bogey at 7
He had a rough day
By the way triple bogey drops you three birdies four
