Nope, just check. It was a serious question. As semimojo noted, the do compare sequences to target strains, so clearly there has been some cross checking.
What I'd like to know is what was in the original Chinese sequence that is missing from later sequencing.
I've heard rumors that the original sequence has spongiform encephalopathy prions as one of the spike proteins.
They cause mad cow's disease in bovines and, variant form of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease in humans.
If this spike was chosen for an mRNA vaccine target would vaccinated people get what we might call "mad dragon disease"? (I hereby claim priority on "mad dragon disease"!)
