168 out of how many?

The failure rate is 1%-4%. The US has administered 157 million vaccinations.

Do the math.

There are already well over 1,000 nation wide. The 168 are just in Oregon and they are not a final result even there. They have not tested their vaccinated population for a positive covid test. The breakthroughs are accumulating and will continue to do so.

If we are going to “do the math” as you put it perhaps you need to start with just how many of the 66 million fully vaxed people (these breakthroughs were all among fully vaxed people) have been exposed to covid over the last couple months.

Only 30 million Americans tested positive for covid over the whole 15 month pandemic. It is safe to assume that the majority of the 66 million vaxed have not yet been exposed.

The Washington Post today reported that the CDC has begun an investigation into the “breakthrough cases” and Fauci stated last week “Post-vaccination “breakthrough” COVID-19 infections are being taken “seriously,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday as federal officials expressed concern about rising coronavirus cases in the US.

“With regard to the breakthrough cases of people who have been vaccinated and ultimately have gotten infection, obviously this is something that we take seriously and follow closely,” the nation’s top infectious disease expert said during virtual White House coronavirus briefing.

“Fauci said that “one of the important things that will be done, and must be done, is to sequence the genome of the virus that’s the breakthrough virus” in order to find out whether infection was from the original virus strain or one of the COVID-19 variants.”

“It would be very important to see if they broke through with the wild-type virus, which would indicate a real diminution of immunity or whether it broke through with one of the variants, which would be much more explainable if you don’t have enough cross-reactivity,” he said.
