I know. Pretty silly especially when most of Europe was starving after WW2. The US had an abundance of corn w could hav giv n them but as I understand it, most Europeans wouldn’t eat it.

when I was a child I was sent out to get corn for dinner,
I picked the biggest yellowest ones and was admonished for it upon return.
brought back feed corn “its for the pigs!”

that is when I learned silver queen rocks

The story they tell here (in Germany) is that the friendly, post-WWII "Amis" asked the defeated, starving Germans what they needed most to get their agricultural sector back on its feet. The Germans answered "Korn!" ("Korn" = German for "grain"). And a misunderstanding was born. (However, the Germans quickly came to appreciate maize, and so no real harm was done.)
