Thank you very much for sharing your pet issue. Now what should we pay attention to above that level? The real problem is much more than that from a source even more nefarious than you might have considered?

The point is out of it all we need to find the root problem and go after that. Rather than revel in our own personal fetishes. Wrong is wrong... But where is the true root of the wrong?

Open borders is probably my main issue. But many other issues are important to me too.

If I had a helicopter I’d drop fliers in depressed neighborhoods telling them how much money the government is spending on illegals.

In the "good old days" conservatives were in favor of the monarchy, while liberals (both classical and progressive) were against it. Patrick Deneen has some great books and talks on YouTube where he details how both the focus on liberty of the classical liberals and focus on equality of the progressive liberals have gotten us to where we are.

If you want a root cause it is that we gave up monarchies. If we were led by a monarch in a country that had a state church which was aligned, but not answerable, to the government then we could maintain a moral and humane social, political, and economic order.

We have decided instead to support liberty in hopes that it would not be quashed by the progressives' demand for equality. We are finding that equality trumps liberty at every turn.

Of course the elite oligarchs that run our sham democracy from behind the curtains have all the liberty and freedom from equality that they desire. We are the poor suckers that are doomed to lose our liberties as the dead weight of the grand equalizers slowly squashes us.

The elites were afraid of Trump because he was someone that could have created something like a monarchy. Not in a legal manner, but through shear strength of personality he drew, and could have continued to draw, enough citizens to his cause that he could act as a monarch. But this couldn't be allowed to happen.

When the liberals were weak in the early 60's they were the ones begging for free speech so that they could get their ideas into the public square. Now it is the conservatives begging for free speech. What does that tell you about our current place in the pecking order?

Libertarians call for greater freedom, but that only means more immigrants coming into the country, becoming citizens and voting for equality over liberty. It also means more consumerism eating away at morals, and more free markets moving jobs to other countries and an economy based on making bets and shuffling paper around.

Social conservatives call for a return to God, but in our pluralistic society only a few heed His call, and an increasingly secular government is making it more and more difficult to spread the Good Word.

Neocons tried to energize us by inviting us on a crusade to spread democracy and free markets around the world. We now see how successful that was.

The conservative who made the most sense to me was Russell Kirk. Living a life based on principles rather than some oxymoronic "conservative" ideology. But who can live a life based on principles in a country that now requires us to believe lies and allow ourselves to be led around like children lest we lose our livelihoods?

There is no ONE thing upon which everything else is based. Even if you claim that Jesus is the answer you will get a thousand different opinions on what Jesus's answer is.

If we could go back to a Catholic, Orthodox, or Anglican monarchy then that would work out well. We could disband the unions and reinstitute guilds. We could have a Distributist rather than Socialist or Capitalist economy. We could allow religious dissension, but only in private and never supported in any way by the state.

We are already living under an oligarchy, and most likely have been so since the Civil War. Why not have an open and honest monarchy where we know who our leaders are, who to blame when things go sour, and who to send to the guillotine when things go really bad? The current system is dishonest. The oligarchs don't even have the common decency to out themselves. And the "democratic process" is just another pageant we engage in hoping beyond hope that anything good can come of it.
