Always avoided Dune due to its Islamic connection.
The biggest problems with the Dune movie.
1. Trying to take a book that covered so much ground and crunching into 1:55 minutes was crazy. It should have been a two part movie.
2. The ONLY things they took from the book were the names of the characters, the spice/melange and the desert planet. It was like none of the writers had even read the book.
2a. The writers must have been on hallucinogens while writing the scripts and the director must have been sharing them. The visualizations of the characters was...WTH?
1. The De Laurentiis kids produced the thing. Their meathooks were all over the place. It looked like they were trying to prove that Daddy Dino had been onto something when he produced Barbarella and Flash Gordon. Both flops as I recall.

Disagree. Lynch’s “Dune” was a masterpiece (albeit with some flaws). I prefer the long version of it, which he disowned.
The SyFy Dune movies were actually pretty good.
