My brother-in-law, turned 69 in March, had a very severe case, in the hospital and then rehab for a total of 2 months from the end of November until mid-January. He was out of his mind in the beginning, had no idea where he was when he was in the hospital. He was very belligerent, kept ripping his IV’s out, unresponsive to doctors/nurses, wasn’t eating. He nearly died. Recently he told my sister he feels like he lost half of himself. His oxygen level was very low when he went to the ER initially and his blood sugar was 500+, insulin dependent diabetic.

I believe for those that had it so severe, there are lasting effects.

I hope he is doing better now and continues to improve.
I work now for a company that makes equipment for ECMO which is Extracorporeal oxygenation for patients whose lungs and/or heart aren’t working well and need tome to heal. Covid pts have been heavy users of these devices. I have seen pts clot off their ECMO circuits in a day or two due to the great hypercoagulability that occurs. In some pts it is dramatic.

That’s why I am not too surprised if that studies findings. I hope and pray your family member continues to improve.
