The man suffered injuries and was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital. The department said he's been placed on a 72-hour mental health evaluation hold.

A man wielding a machete and wearing "heavy motorcycle armor" was tased by a San Benito County Sheriff's deputy and is now on a mental health evaluation hold, according to a Facebook post by the Hollister Police Department.

The department reported that around 11 am, officers were called to the 300 block of Primavera Drive to a report of two men fighting.

Police found a man armed with a machete in the area of Maple and North Sally Street.

The department said officers tried negotiating with the man for 10 minutes and attempted to de-escalate the situation.

'At one point, the subject approached an officer, and officers deployed less-lethal “bean bag” rounds but they were not effective due to the subject’s clothing," the department's Facebook post read.

A sheriff's deputy tased the man while he was walking to the post office parking lot.

The man suffered injuries and was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital. The department said he's been placed on a 72-hour mental health evaluation hold.

What state? Again, shitassed writing.

Machetes are becoming the “weapon du jour” in the US and England. Wonder why? Lack machete laws, perhaps?

Racing leathers, maybe even with some Kevlar bits?

I was thinking the guy was lucky the cop didn’t go straight to his pistol. What I think of as “motorcycle armor” is very taser prong resistant. And you’re well inside Tueller drill distances when you deploy a taser.

Anyone else notice they only refer to the man as “the man” or the “subject” throughout the article?

Causes me to suspect that the “subject” is a member of a protected class.
