Alfredo Ortiz: MLB Pulling ASG from Georgia Will ‘Cost Upwards of $100 Million of Economic Damages

Job Creators Network President and CEO Alfredo Ortiz on Monday reacted to Major League Baseball’s decision to pull its 2021 All-Star Game and Draft out of Atlanta over Georgia’s new election laws.

According to Ortiz, the decision to remove the two events will “cost upwards of $100 million of economic damages” to Georgia. The jobs expert pointed out that a lot of the businesses being hurt the most by a “misrepresentation” of the new law are “minority-owned businesses” that “desperately” needed the revenue.

The first poster laid it out pretty well, but there is no way the All Star Game generates anywhere near that kind of revenue.

Those kind of numbers are always used when the sports teams want new stadiums at taxpayer expense. They claim they will generate very unrealistic dollars and no one ever calls them on it later when it never happens.

Sports stadiums are a form of corporate welfare the right is ok with because we like the Cowboys or the Braves (who are on their third stadium since 1990).

Good points. The 100 million dollar figure is ridiculous. I don’t believe it for a second.

Yes. Setting aside local taxes for these sports palaces simply transfers all the costs to the locals ... even as the prices of tickets have soared.

Ever see the South Park episode where the kids adopt the Washington Redskins logo? That’s what pro sports and local governments have been teaming up to do to fans for years.

Not to mention pricey parking rates, traffic and a few ash holes as fans in the stands to ruin the atmosphere. Scrooge MLB and it’s overpaid primadonna’s on the fields. When as a younger man I used to watch baseball games live or on TV mostly. Now zero desire for the many obvious reasons. It’s all ruined and lost it’s simple glory.

You bring up a good point.

When you were younger you used to go to the games or watch them on tv.

With the feminization of boys that has taken place in this country, there aren’t many young boys and men taking your place. Skinny jean wearing, Instagrammer, Pajama Boys don’t watch.

And as things have gotten more expensive, it costs more and more to attend a game even if you were so inclined.

These decisions by MLB, and others, are just alienating and pissing off the very people they need to keep.

The Texas Rangers had a very nice stadium and not that old yet they tore it down to build a lesser version of the nearby Jerrah’s World (Cowboys).
Fans spend about 3 hours or so at a game. Nice places ya got there but not tapping my wallet for deep dollars.

You know what you call 11 millionaires sitting around watching the world series? The Atlanta Braves. 😆

Other states need to pass the same laws and some sports can go broke.
Saving the country from a hostile regime is more important than watching baseball prima donna players kneeling.

When the Braves ask for a taxpayer funded stadium in ten years you will thank the MLB for moving them to another state.

That sounds like a bunch of fun to attend a baseball game. Sorry I’ll take a hard pass.

what is not reported. This whole All Star Game revolved around the honoring of Hank Aaron- Well if they move to Milwaukee (logical choice) MLB is moving to a state with stricter voting laws than the ones approved into law n Georgia.

Whatever MLB is dead to me-

I just checked and the cheapest Red Sox ticket for tomorrow night’s game is $295. And you have to wear a mask the whole game. Game time temperature will be in the 40’s. No one is watching the games on television and they are only allowing 3000 fans into the park. I bet the don’t get 1/3 that many. How are they paying their salaries?

I don’t give a darn where or what happens to the Braves. But it would be poetic justice for the city to refuse such a request. But then, I’m not for cities funding any sports stadiums for professional sport teams.

The Georgia Legislature should now pass a bill prohibiting MLB or any of its members or affilliates from using any facility in Georgia that received any public funding.
