Two bobcat cubs, a brother and a sister, were released back into the wild of Jacks Peak Park in Monterey after nearly a year of rehabilitation.
In the Summer of 2020, the SPCA of Monterey County rescued the cubs before they were transferred to the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley. On March 24, the siblings were set free.
According to the SPCA, the cubs were raised together, fed live rodents, and had little to no human contact. All of those steps were taken to make them self-sufficient in the wild and to have a natural fear of humans.
Monterey County Parks staff transported the cubs and wildlife center personnel deep into Jacks Peak Park, where the bobcats were successfully returned to their natural habitat, the county reported on Wednesday.
This seems like a small park to release them into. (1000 square feet)
The park is named after David Jack, a Scot immigrant to Monterey, who is most famous for having Monterey Jack cheese named after him.

Fact check.
Is your number an April Fool’s joke?

Why did they have to be rehabilitated? Were they caught littering?
Voted for Trump.....
That certainly turned out better than that time they released a sea otter....
Over a year old, is “Cubs” still the correct term, or just to pull at heartstrings to get people to click the link? Asking for a Cat.
Their first question was “where da live mice at?”
I think you said you’ve hike here before?
Nope, haven’t hiked Jack’s Peak, but that sure does look nice. (at least I don’t think I’ve hiked there — it seems vaguely familiar). Only at Toro up CA68 14 miles.
Thanks for the tip — I’ll add that to my list. That would be a nice short hike with lunch in Carmel afterward.
We’ve often gone to Point Lobos early followed by lunch in Carmel. Point Lobos is about the most spectacular meeting of land and ocean on the planet.
