"In a Class of Her Own" is the Chinese version of the Korean "Sungkyunkwan Scandal." This video shows when Wenxi's scholar roommate sees Wenxi dressed as a girl and becomes tormented after that by continually imagining the roommate he thinks is a boy, as an attractive girl.
Another video for the same Chinese drama, streaming off my website, shows Wenxi feels the same way about the scholar.
In a Class of her Own - Night Song - Jane Olivor
Of the two dramas, I prefer the Korean version, Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Especially for these literary music videos, it works with its better action, shorter scenes and more dynamic facial expressions. When you get a show like Class of her Own, very static, you're forced to do massive editing to increase the interest. It's so static that I didn't even try to redo "Hold My Ground" for Class of My Own. I don't think it would "hold its ground."
Also, interestingly enough, the actual editor of Class of Her Own made a few mistakes that weren't due to the source material he/she was being fed. Usually using stills when about to do a special effect.
Back in the day, I got a tour of Hollywood production studios and was able to follow the film data through all the notebooks into final edit. That really taught me something about how they train junior film editors. I also took a workshop from the editor of The Pawnbroker, so actually got to build scenes out of multiple inputs. That makes it really fun trying to understand the thinking of the editors of these dramas.
Since the Korean Sungkyunkwan Scandal can't play on YouTube, you can watch those videos for comparison from my website:
Sungkyunkwan Scandal – I Will Hold My Ground – Darryl Worley
Sungkyunkwan Scandal – If You Were a Woman - Bonnie Tyler
Sungkyunkwan Scandal - He's a Rebel - Bryan Adams
Sungkyunkwan Scandal - Night Song - Jane Olivor
Sungkyunkwan Scandal - Walk Like a Man - Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
PING to the last Class of Her Own music video
Apologies. I left Bobbie Gentry’s name off the title.
Amazing that you found that!
I was born in ‘44 and can remember being obsessed by Hit Parade, where they acted out the songs. The flash memory I have is to the song Vaya Con Dios, as a Spanish love story. The radio and the 4pm movie were constants thru childhood.
Later, in high school, our nun in the singing class made us listen to classical music and imagine the action. I think both of those started my obsession with this type of video.
bttt !!!
Thanks for that. I’ll make sure to watch it soon. The loss of any great artist is a tragedy.
It was the 45 album cover. Probably can be found thru google.
Did someone mention Glen Campbell? <3
This is a very important interview that everyone should see. Alice is just an honest friend here. I’ve been told that he is available 24/7 for any musician that wants to stop using or drinking.
Good guy is what he is. And not just in front of some camera.
He also sheds so much light on Glen’s decline. It’s sad, but enlightening at the same time.
Gonna go watch it again. Thanks for the reminder.
I’ve watched Alice’s interview 2 or 3 times over the years. They do seem like unlikely friends, which makes the interview even more interesting.
