There’s a mishmash of out of context things all pulled together to establish a narrative.
The first thing to recognize is that when you’re talking to a broad, general audience who isn’t necessarily familiar with the intricacies of mRNA translation vs transcription or protein synthesis by ribosomes, it’s helpful to use more familiar concepts and terminology. Those concepts and terms may not be very accurate or descriptive, but they can convey the general concept in a way that everyone understands. If you’re interested in an accurate understanding of what’s going on, a Ted Talk isn’t the place. You have to dig deeper into the biology and chemistry to understand it.
In terms of the SEC filing, what’s important to note there is that they’re speaking to investors, and investors care primarily about perception. They note the fact that the FDA’s existing classification for the process is under “gene therapy”, (which isn’t accurate at all and will likely change soon) and that may carry with it negative connotations. Important point here is that they are not describing their own process as gene therapy; they’re noting that the FDA has it classified as such at this time and commenting on how that might impact public perception of products coming into the marketplace.

Rather than trying to read tea leaves of an SEC filing or an old Ted Talk like some backwater witch doctor reading bones to see whether the gods want another human sacrifice, we should look at actual facts to understand the truth of what’s happening.
