Interesting that a seasoning synonymous with shellfish was invented by a Jewish fellow. I Use Zatarians pro boil II and Old bay with lashings of cayenne..

What I got out of the article besides his remarkable story was that McCormick corporation is intensely anti-Semetic.....

Oddly, most McCormick spices are certified kosher by an Orthodox Jewish agency.

It's hush hush....but one of the best-kept chef secrets at high-end restaurants
is a splash of hot sauce in the soup, salad dressing, sauces, etc.

Fascinating story. Thanks for posting. I’m an OB addict. I have the cans, the hot sauce and have had the OB beer from Flying Dog. I use the hot sauce on my scrambled eggs every Saturday. Also have the OB nuts from some outfit in VA.
I didn’t realize how widespread it is, I just know I had a helluva time finding it in Portsmouth, NH back in the 80s.

We got addicted to Old Bay seasoning while eating at a sea food restaurant in Maryland.
We bought a container at the restaurant, and Old Bay has been on the top shelf of of our Spice cabinet since 1964.
Old Bay is used with all of our seafood with the exception of when we grill Pacific Coast Ocean Salmon. Then, we grill with McCormick’s Grill Mates Seafood Seasoning with Natural Cedar Smoked Seasoning, on our outside grill or in our oven during late fall to early spring.

When you get away from the Mid-Atlantic States it is hard to find. Can’t imagine why one would eat crabs, shrimp, or any other seafood without it. It is even good on French Fries. It’s not used much in the South where there is an abundance crabs and shrimp. Their loss!

Baltimore Margarita - a glass of Natty Boh with Old Bay on the rim of it
To: kaktuskid
It’d be even better with Zing Zang in the Natty Bo ;) but then it wouldn’t be a margarita.
