Move to small town, find out if the Sheriff can be trusted or not,if they are a complete lib, run agianst them in next election.
Same for Mayor, County Commissioner, etc....
Our county sheriff is conservative. I have seen him commit perjury on the stand. Corruption is common when you feel invincible, regardless of political persuasion.
