The extortion plot makes even less sense. The extortionists wanted money to keep the investigation ‘quiet?’ No one pays $25M to make an investigation ‘quiet.’ The only thing that could merit that kind of cash is the juice to make the investigation go away. It’s unclear how a civilian lawyer and a ‘developer’ could make either of those things happen.
Still, it looks pretty certain from Politico’s reporting that his dad did wear a wire, perhaps more than once. So, the FBI must have thought the extortion attempt was credible.
None of this explains why the FBI is still investigating Gaetz for a crime that could have been proven or disproven in a day or two particularly if they have a cooperating/complaining witness in the girl.
