Even contemplating leaving is shocking to me. I’m certainly not the best Catholic by a long shot but it feels like part of my identity.
I was born into it for a reason I believe.

It is true that now, I only have nostalgic attachments to the Roman Catholic church. But there are tens of millions of Catholics like you, or even more devout, to whom the religion is not simply “nostalgic”. To them, it is a core part of them.
And these scumbag Marxist charlatans are trying to transform it into their own image.
