I have told my wife and others from my experiences with older adults that for most the day comes when your home does not fit you anymore. Bathroom is small, steps up or down, and even opening the blankety blank packaging that most of the food products are in is a problem.
Agree, my Mother got to the point she couldn’t operate her stove, microwave, thermostat. She would call saying she was cold. Heartbreaking but she wouldn’t leave her house. I had to take action that I didn’t want. Luckily, she signed Power of attorney to me years prior after my Daddy died.

I have problems with them now and I am just past 60. Almost always need scissors or a jar opener.
