“Or do you know someone YOURSELF who has died from COVID (because I don’t, not one)?”

Yes I do, my 76 year-old aunt, whose only co-morbidity was her age. My 50 year-old cousin was very ill from COVID and had no co-morbidities (he lived). I also know people personally who know people who have died from it, and I am 100% certain that they aren’t lying about it. That said, the experience of any one individual has zero value in assessing vastly broader-scale events, except in the mind of the misguided individual.

Well that's odd. For all of 2020 I worked in an organization of over 2,500 people, so-called "front-line workers" who had daily exposure to the public, in a metropolitan area of well over 1 million people. There was not 1 reported death. Not 1. Among those I talked to who had to quarantine due to exposure or positive test, none reported even any remarkable illness. And we weren't even required to wear masks until late April 2020.
