Maya Rudolph is brilliant, but the general “SNL” audience considers her part of the family and not a guest host.
Jack Harlow is unknown to just about everyone as a white rapper, and isn’t a draw.
These are the lessons learned from last night’s show as “SNL” had the lowest recorded ratings in over a decade. Going back to 2009 you can’t find a 3.6 million rating. But that’s what happened as Rudolph — albeit wonderful– hosted, and Harlow performed.
The show lost 500,000 viewers from its last airing on February 27th. Post-election, “SNL” has been averaging around 4.1 million.
The season high was 9.1 million on the Saturday after the election, and the numbers stayed around 6 million for three more weeks. But then reality set in: Alec Baldwin as Trump was gone. Trump himself was gone, and with him all acerbic political bashing. The resistance was done. “SNL” suddenly lacked a purpose. It went from being appointment viewing to a pedestrian experience. The fans tuned out.

The entire show is like that in many respects - how can we humiliate and laugh at conservatives, it's boring and not funny. It's supposed to be funny, but they willingly abandoned that to be Leftist activists, like the media gave up news to be Leftist activists.
She accepted an offer to be a actor in Bridesmaids, her one hit wonder and she was not even that good in it.

I remember back around 1980, I think Lorne Michaels had left for awhile, and it was just awful. I think out of that cast, they only kept Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo.
Sometimes it was funny. We actually just watched a couple of classic episodes with Jane Curtin and Dan Aykroyd, and apart from the "Jane, you ignorant slut" Point/Counterpoint bits, they were painfully unfunny. And that's not just with modern perspective. The live audience from 1978 or whatever it was was not laughing.

There was this rally on my campus during the Iran hostage thing.
Some raggedies were up on this podicum platform jibberin in what almost passed for English.
Me and my cohorts had made this HUGE paper sign on two sticks that said 'F*CK IRAN' (/w the U). We hoisted it to gasps from the crowd.
And I, having had a bellyful of islam, yelled out,
"ABDUL, YOU IGNORANT SLUT!!!".
The crowd roared and the raggedys glared. But what could they do? Take me hostage?
It was a good day.
Just FYI SNL first aired in 1975.
