The military at this point is preparing for war by remote; I don’t believe politicians will be putting “boots on the ground” in any numbers any time soon - or ever again.

Yeah, people have said that since the end of WWII. It has not worked out that way. Methinks you will always need to put boots on the ground, until you have humanoid robots that be controlled via telepresence with unjammable comm links.

You need to put boots on the ground to win, but when winning isn’t the goal, there is no reason to do it. These are designed to be “endless wars”.
