It was a huge single item initially - as I said it seemed to span the dip between Mt Jupiter and another mountain whose name I forgot. It did seem to breakup into more than one item with fragments burning like a newspaper in a fire - after the large item passed, it was followed by two other smaller tracks separated by empty sky.

There was a report that a booster rocket of Russian origin entered the atmosphere west of the Coast - but it crashed into the ocean 400 miles out. Some one else reported the remains passed over Canada and crashed into eastern Washington, but no more was said, nothing either about any findings.

I could agree with you conclusion, but as I recall it ‘felt’ more like a ship with people aboard dying. Ship? Odd I would think that.

If an entire orbit takes roughly ninety minutes, fifteen minutes would be roughly one sixth of the orbital circumferential track. That arc is way more than the distance acroos the region, so whatever you witnessed would have been traveling much slower than orbiting velocity for it to remain visible above you. If it was disintegrating in the atmosphere it was much lower than a geosynchronous orbit.
