I was surprised that the docents spent a lot of time explaining how metal tools traded to the natives for pelts, helped tribes lessen the time it would take to say, carve a canoe. The emphasis seemed to be how much the white man helped; and they mentioned that 50% of settlers died the first year from diseases from the Americas.
