So you saw the most dramatic changes via diet?
I am about 15-20 overweight for my age but decided to focus first on consistent movement-
1-2 mile daily alk (Big German Shep) Peleton & Pilates as my joints suck.
But truly I do not eat that much but when I do it might be half a burger, bacon/eggs, mexican food.
That is veeeery interesting....my husband had a stroke (actually 2 one in the eye) and had surgery to unclog him Carotid artery in Nov. The doctors put him on a statin just to cover the checklist but his CH readings were not bad at all.

Yeah, at least according to the blood tests. Just cut sugar and carbs down to 25 net grams a day. I actually started the Keto again about 6 weeks ago. I consume no sugar, but there are some carbs in the few snacks I allow myself e.g. mixed nuts and some sauces and dressings. Keto and Atkins are basically the same thing but Keto tends to stress more fat and where Atkins more protein. Otherwise almost identical diets. Because of my heart health concerns I just have an aversion to fattier foods so lots of chicken, turkey, steaks and fish and avoid the fattier meats. But for diet purposes heart health aside it shouldn’t matter much at all.

I was specifically told I should not run or jog for exercise. I have 3 stents in my artery. All other activity fine. Anyway I hate running so no big deal.

Bike for 20 minutes, treadmill for 10 minutes. Check BP before exercise, then right after exercise, 5 minutes of breathing exercises (basically inhale for 5-6 seconds, and exhale for 7-9 seconds per breath) and then check BP again.
The third readout usually shows a lower number than the first, which I credit mainly to the breathing exercise which is intended to lower BP. In any case my BP is in normal range but I do take BP meds because of the stents.

But they closed the gym due to covid, so thanks! Now they are open again, but 10% capacity which means basically nobody can get in anyway.

As an aside, I read recently about weight changes during the lockdown. There were dramatic shifts in both directions but not surprisingly about 2x as many people gained weight vs losing weight. And worse of all, the average weight gain during covid was around 30 pounds across all age groups, genders, marital status etc. Slightly less for younger people and slightly more for parents. Snack food, alcohol, netflix and a couch for 13 months will do that. I was surprised though that about 20% of people reported an average weight loss of 20 pounds during lockdown. I attribute that to stress but maybe also people budgeting food expenses. These are “unwanted weight changes” not people who actually tried to gain or lose weight.

The unintended consequences of the lockdown will be severe. Undiagnosed conditions left to fester because people don’t want to go to see doctors. Obesity, diabetes etc. Alcohol and drug abuse. Even when we eradicate the virus the health consequences will linger for many years.
