Given the demonstrated threat of these small drones the USN should have shot them down - free target practice.

We don’t have ‘targets’ anymore. We have observable phenomena that we need to understand and relate to. /sarc

catch them with shotgun nets- if it is china we’ll get valuable information.

If it is private wise-asses they’ll stop doing it when they keep losing their drones.

Flying over a nuclear facility is against the law. Shoot one or two down and see who built and flew them. Then take offensive action against the source. Are our military and Navy that incompetent?

Drones are a much easier term to deal with than UFO.

They just didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings.

One would think that a group of unidentified drones buzzing around a destroyer task force would be fodder for the ship’s guns. Looks like the Navy has some weird rules of engagement. Can’t believe the military is unable to track them back to their lair. Is the US military operating with one hand tied behind it’s back or is this disinformation.

100 miles offshore?? Must have been deployed from a boat. Or ultra long range pricey drones.

Seriously, doesn’t the USN have and issue cheapie RF jammers?

As soon as a drone enters its field, it should take a nose dive into the drink.

Skeet!

The USN is converting to steel shot projectiles in all weapon systems because of the harm lead causes to wildlife and the environment.

Common sense says if there is no sign of the controller within eye sight, these “drones” are of high tech and must be considered hostile. Fired up the Phalanx and down em!!
