“...Why is that? I use debit lots....”
-
This story should tell you “why”.
Debit card debts go instantaneously to your checking account.
Charge card debts sit there until the end of the month
and can be easily disputed.
An erroneous charge on a debit card can wipe you out.
Debit card debts go instantaneously to your checking account.
Actually this is not always true. I have a PayPal MC debit card linked to my PayPal account, which is linked to my Bank.
When a charge comes through, I instantly get both a text and an email (often before the waiter gets back with the charge receipt for me to sign) confirming/verifying the purchase. And I can (and have) dispute it right then. And the charge never even gets passed on to my bank until the next day.
And if it’s a restaurant charge, and I add a tip when I sign the receipt, then the charge stays pending until restaurant resubmits the charge with the tip added, and it can be several days before this happens. And then I get another text/email alert. And then it shows up at my bank the next day.
