Just Saw "A Few Good Men"-A It Piece on The Marines

Posted on 03/21/2021 7:09:38 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

The victim(Santiago) was of course, a person of color. Defendants were a queer-like, just as Hollywood would have it. Then there's the ugly old white guy(Nicholson)going up against the cocky young Ricky Nelson-looking, brash defense lawyer(Cruise). Throw in the black authority figure(judge) along with a strong female(Demi Moore) standing up to the neanderthal men and there you have it. What could go wrong? Don't forget the sexual tension between the 2-they didn't finish. .

Nicholson is the best actor of his generation. Cruise i must admit is very good.

Two things about the movie that felt wrong. Otherwise a very good watch.

First, Colonel Jessup would never have fell into the trap of admitting he ordered the code red. He was far too smart for that.

Second, I’ve never understood why they had Lt. Colonel Markinson commit suicide. He himself didn’t do anything wrong and was in a position to make things right, but chose the cowards way out inexplicably.

Oh, for the days when you could watch a movie just because it was a movie. For that matter, watch a football game just because it was football. Or walk into a store and see human faces...and so on.

Everything is a steaming pile of crap now. Takes the simple joy out of everything. What a depressing world.

The movie was good and Jack Nicholson was excellent, but the movie was based on a true story that Hollywood essentially rewrote. There was no murder.

The 2 defendants. The young white guy worshipped his young black superior/co-defendent. could be wrong but this is Hollywood.

You are wrong.

It was one Marine's respect for another, nothing queer about it.

If you saw that as gay, you have a problem, but don't worry, I'll keep your DIRTYSECRET.

Sort of like reading a good John Grisham novel ‘The Firm’ being one of my favorites.

I just re-read "The Client" and am thinking about the Firm.

I love the original Grisham 5-6 books, but like so many good writers, once they hit the screen, and the cash came rolling in, the ghost writers took over and the pap started flowing.

Kinda like my favorite, Tom Clancy, but the last coupla Clancy books are pure trash.

I am aware of a drill sergeant ordering a group of trainees to march into a swamp. About 14 of them drowned. Mid-60’s I think.

Next there was a marine who was AWOL after 4 days of training in the desert. They found him dead and they busted 2 sargents and a lieutenant. 70’s or 80’s.

Last(coulda been army) 2 drill sargents were arguing about who’s men were tougher. They were drinking and they woke up all their men in the middle of the night, lined them up, and started slapping them. courtmartialed.

The first story was heard secondhand. The other 2 were in the news.

Last, we got a look at the UCMJ system. Interesting one could talk back and not just answer the questions. I’ve been told If you’re innocent you’re better off in a military trial. Guilty people are better off in a civilian court. The there’s a lawyer out there who defended someone a lot like Bergdhal. “Military justice is to justice what military music is to music.” That was funny.

You JUST saw it? Have you been living under a rock?

When are you going to see “Top Gun”; or “Shawshank Redemption; or “Remember the Titans”?

The Client was excellent. The Racketeer was another one.

Hollywood always has to turn everything into something PC. It’s worse now since that movie was made.

When I was a Mech Infantry Platoon Leader and Company Maintenance Officer in 1975-76., I had two guys that would make Downey look like a genius.

Ever hear of Cat 4s?

Coach Boone lost his job a few years later for abusing his players. ...

Interesting. Gee, the movie never mentioned that.

Reiner is a putz, a fat putz and fraud. A jew-”ish” Michael Moore fraud.

Agree one hundred per cent.

You do know that Sorkin is a huge lefty don’t you? I’d be shocked if he wasn’t trying to make it a hit piece.

Back in those days it was common to deny players water breaks because of “tuff” and because coaches had the idiotic notion that water caused cramps.

Cat 4 people had IQs south of about 80.

CAT 1s were guys who were quite intelligent. Goes down from there.
