Human lives are far more valuable than any animal.
Humane is to treat the animal with care and in that case, care was to dispatch it, just like you do when your cat is sick and won’t get better.
I’ll call this one in Canada differently. The animal was not in pain nor was it suffering in any real way. The rescue was the proper thing to do, plus is was a good training exercise.
