It is a late friday, and The Who's abridged version of "Tommy" and Pete Townsend, played accoustic guitar during the whole session is remarkable.

We saw a lot of shows there. Metallica, Ozzfest, Vans Warped Tour, Weezer, Scorpions, Green Day to name a few. They had an air conditioned private bar and rest area you could go to between acts if you had a pass so while there was a monster queue for the other fans my daughter and her friends could just walk in and relax. Good times indeed. It had a few name changes over the years and since we moved away I don’t even know if it’s still open.

There are better venues now on the Northside. It’s a pretty high-crime vicinity. And it is in the City of Atlanta proper, whose police force is 20-25% understrength, and whose mayor, council and DA are feckless on crime and support for the police (even though there is a new DA since last Summer). No thanks.

There’s a similar scale nicer amphitheater in Alpharetta, a really nice smaller indoor venue in the Galleria area, and a similar sized indoor venue in Gwinnett.

Looks like they’re starting back up in July with the Black Crowes.

We lived in Forsyth County before retiring to Spain. The ampitheatre in Alpharetta opened up shortly before we left so we never got to go there. The last concert we saw before we left was the Doobie Brothers in Gainesville. The last major concert we went to was Metallica at Turner Field. My son went to Georgia Tech so we also went to the Tabernacle, the Masquerade and Variety Playhouse a lot. If you wanted classy stuff you went to Chastain Park. We saw Santana and BB King there as well as Alice Cooper.

I saw them that summer too...25th anniversary tour. My show was at the Pontiac Silver dome.

Got 2 tickets for HS grad.

We left about the same time. I was in Alharetta. Saw lots of shows at all the venues you mentioned. Got a little lost one day trying to find the Tabernacle and ended up in the middle of Crack alley.

So how is Spain? That is on my list of possible places to go when I retire.

I don’t even remember the ‘80s.

Spain is wonderful. Good health care, good infrastructure, low cost of living, fantastic weather that can be structured to your lifestyle. We like sea, sand and sunshine but if you like green hills and farmland you can find that, or snow and mountains. We live in a home with what they would call a million dollar view in America for a fraction of the price. 600 meters walk to the beach, hundreds of restaurants within 10 minutes in any direction, an hour to the airport and nobody talks politics. We couldn't be happier
