I saw Dana Carvey at a private show the night Trump was Inaugurated. His show was highly political, yet just flat out funny.

He figured out how to walk the tightrope. I suspect he leans center right but you really could not tell.

He was like the old comedians who figured out ways to make fun of but not be offensive. To me, he’s the gold standard of current comedians

A few of those SNL stars during his time there turned out to be conservative.

I always enjoyed Carvey’s George H.W. Bush impression. It was funny without being contemptuous of Bush. I saw an interview with Norm MacDonald once and he claimed that the key to a successful impression is having some affection for the person you are impersonating. For this reason, he didn’t like Alec Baldwin’s Trump impression, because Baldwin was too obviously expressing his contempt for Trump. He believed that Baldwin’s contempt ruined the impression and made it not funny. I found MacDonald’s take very interesting.
