He is being defensive just like all dog owners who have an animal that should be put down.
(Unless, of course that dog was trained to bite people)
There is a reason why many home insurance companies will not insure you if you own a German Shepard Dog. I was almost bitten by a German Sheppard walking down the street in Maine.
The dog lunged at me from eight feet away. The owner had him on a leash and was able to pull him back at the last second.
Before anyone jumps to defend this breed, I will state my daughter breeds and shows Dobermans. My wife and I breed beagles. I have been around hundreds of different breeds at dog shows for over twenty years.
