Lost your chance to do good.
I served on a jury where the other smart guy had done a tour in the Israeli Defense Force (SpecOps).
We were the only jury members who noticed the oversized shirt (to hide the perp’s buffed-out muscles), the glasses that had no lens correction (to make him seem bookish, not threatening), and who knew enough about trauma/stress under fire to be able to explain the victim’s actions.
Result: Our experiences/observations resulted in a guilty verdict with imprisonment when the other 10 jury members, weak sisters all, would have let a dangerous predator go free.
I worked in NY State prisons, in uniform. During that 25 years, we were exempt from being called for jury duty. That changed sometime after I retired in 2003. Since then I got called once, but had my doctor provide me with a note excusing me. Never got called again.
My youngest son, now 50, got called once for jury duty, several years ago. They asked him if there was a reason he wouldn't be able to be impartial. He said "Yeah...my mother's a Correctional Sergeant." They sent him home.
