it depends on what state you are in, my state banned these a long time ago, and new cars do not use lead weights

Lead weights are banned in eight states, predictably they're the nuttier ones. That still leaves 42 states where they're common.

New cars might not come from the factory with lead weights but when the tires are replaced they'll most likely use lead to balance them, unless they're in a nutty state. Used lead weights are very easy to find in my state.
