I doubt that. They probably were struggling to hit the building and almost missed. It’s not exactly easy for an amateur to sit in a big jet for the first time and put it on “X marks the spot”. More likely he was “behind the jet” so to speak and pulled in a big correction.
You have to be wayyyy out in front of a machine moving that fast. That one, flight 175, was booking at almost 590 mph. That exceeds the emergency dive speed for that plane. It was in danger of breaking up even.
He was just barely in control. Without that severe bank, he would have missed the buildings and would have had to circle back.
Makes sense.
