It was not a good day out with my son and his friends. After seeing that, the waterworks started. I contemplated how I could free the poor creature but recognized that all the children would up in foster care overnight in a foreign country and I didn’t have the tools anyway.
Instead, I gathered them up and we went home. I had to explain to the kids why we left so abruptly and by the time we got to the Canadian border we had a car full of tearful passengers and a driver. Try explaining THAT well to a border patrol officer. He thought I was not a well woman.
I tried to make the rest of the day better with pizza and lots of talk about how much fun the prairie dogs were. I left out many details here so the more tender-hearted don’t have to live with a more vivid picture. Some things stick with you forever.
.
Did you describe earlier the episode you are referring to?
Right now I am so tired of living in a world with so much cruelty.
Cruelty to the innocent is terribly disturbing. I burst into loud sobs in a crowded movie theater during a scene from “Bless the Beasts and the Children.”
I was seventeen.
Never forgot it.
