Agreed, there has to be prison. That was never my proposition.
But dismissing other treatments because it doesn’t fit into the DSM-V, particularly when there is historical precedent is just as counter productive.
The end-game should be a safer society and rehabilitation, if possible. I just can’t see justice in throwing a 29 year old into prison for most of his natural life over this, with no priors.

No priors doesn’t mean no victims. Either we haven’t heard of them or we’re not counting the “business he sold photos/images to, the children he photographed, the businesses he supported by downloading. He supported the industry of pedophelia until he got caught and stopped. It’s not like he turned his life around. The only thing that stopped him was arrest.
He needs to stay in jail or he’ll resume re-offending. He’s likely to have a better life there than victims of his perversions that he either directly or indirectly supported, and theirs are often life sentences, and decline in quality of life, shortened health/life span, history of abusive relationships and trauma etc. etc.
My compassion and concern going forward is for his victims. He needs to learn to cope with how his life decisions bought him a life-span of jail, and maybe spend some time realizing how he is toxic to society.
