What a good dad!
There was a big atmospheric kaboom over Lake Michigan sometime just before world war one -- people as far inland as Battle Creek ran out of their homes that night, saw the sky lit up almost like daylight, and thought it was the Apocalypse. A big surge of water came up the channel of the Grand River in Grand Haven, and the EMP knocked out at least six power plants (mostly small municipal generators back then) I think in three states.

Thanks, he was the best!

A big surge of water came up the channel of the Grand River in Grand Haven...

I recently had a very vivid dream about a 9.8 earthquake, which created a tsunami that traveled up rivers and overflowed levees far inland, causing great destruction. My wife was caught in the path but survived, and I found her after a traumatic search. When the water had retreated, someone standing next to me asked, "did I know how big it was?" I said, "no." They said, "it was a 9.8."

It was so vivid and real, I awoke and sent myself an email describing it, as I've begun to do recently, but not lately.
