California wants to ban boys and girls toy or clothes sections in large stores in order to enforce the gender-neutral presentation of products.
The bill would make it illegal for retailers to put up signs saying 'boys' and 'girls' over displays of toys, clothes or childcare items under the threat of a $1,000 fine.
Meanwhile, stores located in the state that have a website would be required to use titles like 'kids', 'unisex', or 'gender-neutral' rather than dividing goods by sex.
Assembly Bill 1084 requires retailers with 500 or more employees 'to maintain undivided areas of its sales floor where the majority of those items being offered are displayed, regardless of whether an item has traditionally been marketed for either girls or for boys,' according to the Legislative Counsel's digest of the bill.
The bill, which if passed would go into effect on January 1, 2024, was co-authored by Assemblyman Evan Low, D-Campbell, who chairs the California Legislative LGBT Caucus, and Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia, D-Bell Gardens, who chairs the California Legislative Women's Caucus.
The text of the legislation claims the ban is necessary to prevent people from being treated differently due to their sex.
An earlier version of the bill was introduced in 2020, but Low decided to withdraw it to avoid distracting from the COVID pandemic, reported the Sacramento Bee.
Introducing the bill, Low said he was inspired by Target's decision in 2015 to abolish gendered children's sections.
'As much as I'd like to think of this as watershed legislation, this is something the industry is already doing. We're just trying to play catch up,' he said.
Low also cited as inspiration a staffer's nine-year-old daughter, who was confused why she had to go into the boys aisle to find science toys.

What a STUPID idea.
This type of stuff is none of Government’s Business , governments are going way outside what their job is
Looking for a pair of slacks? They'll be mixed in with women's slack, teens pedal pushers, and infants leggings. We don't want any of those groups having 'hurt feelings',right? Inconvenience the damn 'elites' for once...
This BS is pushed by people who don't have children OR who are so cheap and mean they don't buy toys for kids. Do unto them as they're doing unto us.
Kids are goats.

So gays and lesbos are telling our stores how to stock their merchandise.
My wife just shook her head and has basically said, “I’m not going into any stores to shop except for veggies/fruits when our local farmer family closes from November to Easter.”
We get a 2 hour order from Costco or a 1 hour order from Whole Foods delivered to our carport. Also, a once a month pickup order from Walmart where we drive up, use our cell phone to inform them that we are here to pick up the order.
My wife jokes that she can buy her name brand sweats from Costco and her hair/skin care products on line delivered to our mailbox or front porch.
We just got 2 rebate checks from State Farm due to reduced mileage on our vehicles. I haven’t bought gas for our Ridgeline since the pandemic started a year ago in March.
I still go to our local Ace, where many of the sales people are getting close to my age and to one grocery store to buy the produce mentioned above. Home Depot has a 2 hour pickup after you place an order on line.
Healthcare is evolving often to home care or delivery to home for our Rxes and other health care services.
My wife’s brother had a mild to moderate stroke a couple of weeks ago. He is getting PT, speech therapy and a visiting RN all at home on a weekly basis.
Last year, A DIL had a hip replacement. She had a RN visit 2x a week and PT 3x a week for a couple of weeks. She is doing great.
Our PPO is moving towards telephone and televised visits for non emergencies. We still have our annual physicals with our PC docs.
A good use of these visits recently involved my wife. She had cataract surgery 2 years ago and since last fall, her vision was not as good as before. She had a telephone visit with her ophthalmologist eye/surgeon.
The surgeon made an appt. at their local hospital 12 miles away, and she suggested that I drive.
My wife saw her in a couple of weeks and there were little spots on her transplanted lenses. The doctor strapped to her head to a head rest, so she couldn’t move. Then the doctor used a laser to zap the spots. She took about 15 minutes per eye.
I guided my wife to the parking lot and drove to our home clinic to get cortisone drops for her eyes. We started with the meds after we got home.
7 days later, her vision was great again.
Meh. I suspect most parents can still figure out the difference between Legos and Barbies even without a sign.
child abuse of female children. They are denied ‘a safe space’ in bathrooms and now ‘a safe space’ in public.
