There’s no real money to be made in simplicity.
I worked in project management and it seemed that clients always had an affinity (if not absolute commitment) for big, complex projects. Simpler solutions were usually dismissed in favor of the Big Bang rollout of some massively complicated system which of course has a tendency to become extremely expensive and difficult to manage.
The drive towards complexity and expense often reflects an odd but understandable combination of organizational overconfidence and empire building.
