A collision between a semitruck and an SUV carrying more than two dozen people near the U.S.-Mexico border Tuesday morning has left 15 dead and several others injured, officials said.
Twenty-seven people were in the SUV when it struck a tractor-trailer hauling gravel, said Judy Cruz, the El Centro Regional Medical Center’s emergency department director.
Fourteen people died at the scene. One more died at El Centro Regional Medical Center, where six others are being treated, Cruz said. At least five more have been flown from the scene to other treatment centers, she said.
“The patients are, of course, going through a little bit of a difficult time,” said Adolphe Edward, chief executive of El Centro Regional Medical Center. “This was a major accident, and we are taking care of them in the emergency room department.”

The damaged vehicle in the LAT picture is a fairly old Ford Expedition, at least before 2018, meaning its rated legal passenger capacity was either 7 or 8, depending on its seating configuration, unless its current operator had folded the two rear seats down, making the vehicle’s entire rear cargo area an open box that could hold 26 people squeezed in like a box of tamales, which I guess he did.

Amazing... 27 people in a SUV? Was it a stretch SUV with a chauffeur? A Suburban only holds 10 people... Overcrowding a SUV is not a great idea...

A CBP guy on TV this evening explained that the smugglers remove most of the seats and then stack the illegals like cord wood, to be able to get maximum number in the SUV.
He also said that a 2nd SUV also came through at the time. They had cut out a section of a non-Trump fence that was built around 2007-09.
Wondering if the owner of that Ford, had car ins..? that and seat belts are normal requirements to license a vehicle...again I'm smh because there are laws and rules for some of us, then there are laws and rules for the OTHERS...
