Was it the norm to wear a tie when visiting friends in the evening in 1949?

No sign this family had a TV set--I think they weren't that common in 1949.

When it came to "privileges" they failed to discuss how they were benefiting from white privilege. Probably because of their white fragility.

They may be going out for the evening away from the kids and traveling in one vehicle. Life was different before covid.
