I suspect the Icelanders adopted their naming system to discourage immigration. Can’t book a plane ticket to a place you can’t spell or pronounce.

A friend of mine visited Iceland a couple years ago. Her tour group went to go see Eyjafjallajokull volcano (yeah, pronounce THAT!).

She said it was an awesome thing to see. I forgot to ask her how it's pronounced, LOL.
